Noises problem
2002 GMC Yukon V8 All Wheel Drive Automatic 88000 miles

I have a 2002 GMC Yukon Denali. On warm days when I turn on the A/C it makes a VERY loud and rough grinding/squealing noise, and vibrates the entire vehicle whenever my foot is on the gas. If I don't use the A/C, it doesn't do it. Doesn't matter the speed I'm going, if I'm on a hill, etc.... On cold days, with the A/C on it doesn't do anything. The dealer is telling me it 'might' be the compressor and they want to replace it at a hefty cost. Any idea's? Need an answer quick before I hit major credit card debt, please help if you can!
