Engine Performance problem

Hello,

My 02 3.0 taurus will drive fine on the highway for a long period of time. As soon as I take the exit, the car will loose power and stall out. I can then only get the car to hold idle by two footing the gas and brake, and dropping it into gear faster than an idle. If i release the gas, it will die again. The car runs fine enough on short trips around town, even when engine warms up with 15 min of highway driving. Also, anytime if i floor the gas, the car has a tendancy for nothing to happen ie, no response. I can release the gas, and reaccellarate slowlyand it will do it fine. the only odb code is a p0442 emmision contol system leak small.
