Transmission problem
2002 Ford Mustang 6 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic

i have a 2002 ford mustang that will not come out of park when i press the brake down but if i turn it off and pull the emergency brake it will shift through the gears and i can put it in neutral and start it then put it in drive or reverse but if i put it in park i have to turn it off again and use the emergency brake trick again. what would cause this and any ideas about how much it would cost to get fixed

It is probably the park lock. There is a switch or solenoid that unlocks the shifter when you step on the brake this is probably bad. If you wiggle the steering wheel back and forth does that unlock it too or not.
