What can a Focus owner "generally" expect as far as the engine continuing to work without either heads being replaced or the engine being replaced all together?

My car needs a new engine they say. I thought cars nowdays went way beyond 100 thou miles before the engine had to be replaced. But then some folks have told me that the cheaper Ford products are not made to go beyong 100 thou. miles without serious and expensive problems...like my engine.

What is the truth about this? I know all cases are different, but on an average...how long can you expect a Ford Focus (or any Ford actually) to last if it is taken care of as it should be?

Also...I see that Hondas and other cars are selling with 100 thou miles already on them as used cars. What is the life expectancy for motors on these kind of cars?
