Electrical problem
2002 Ford Focus 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic 67000 miles

In the morning, wife complained of problem with turning the key with no start. Turned it again and it started. That evening, I checked the battery terminals and positive side had corrosion. I disconnected the cable to clean off with baking soda. Buffed the post and attempted to reconnect, but then the factory security alarm went off (like an emergency vehicle series of 6 or 7 different audible alarms - but not the one associated with the Panic button). Specific gravity on battery is 12.43, a bit lower than the recommended 12.58. Alternator is two years old. Battery is original. Vehicle is in my garage, so towing to dealership would be costly.
