Tires and Wheels problem
2002 Ford Escape 6 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic
----------------------------------------------------------------
I have been a backyard mechanic for 30 years, but I want some advice on this one. I have a bad rear wheel bearing on a front wheel drive 2002 Ford Escape. It is a press fit wheel hub assembly. I can get the bearing, but if I replaced the whole hub assembly, it is the whole rear suspension mount and brake holding frame. I could get one at a junkyard, but that will disturb the wheel alignment. On the other hand, to press out the old bearing and press in the new one, it still looks like the whole assembly would have to come off to get it to a hydraulic press, so the alignment would be shot anyway.

Any thoughts, ideas, or previous experience comments would be appreciated.

Ken

mark everythign before removing then take it off. replace or have it repressed, then you can put it right back on as is.

i would have a 4 wheel alignment done anyways to make sure the new bearings is tracking right and keep a long life.
