Transmission problem

Rescently my automatic transmission would only drive in second gear. When the vehicle was in park all of the different gears would be lit up and it would not allow the automatic doors to open because it was not clearly in park. I drove like this for a few weeks without any problem other than not being able to use anything but second gear. Then the other day I go out to the car and it will not let me turn the key over at all. Very similar to what it would do if you did not have the vehicle in park and left it in drive when you parked. The vehicle is in park though and I cannot move the shifter at all. As stated I cannot turn the key at all and do not get electric when the key is inserted into the ignition.
