Engine Mechanical problem
2002 Chrysler PT Cruiser Two Wheel Drive Automatic 135000 miles

I was driving on highway last night, I heard a pop sound, the engine light came on, and I had to coast over to side of road. Once stop, the engine wouldn't turn over. What could be the cause of this? did the timing belt or some other belt break? transmission?
