Air Conditioning problem

I have a 2002 Suburban and the a/c comes on and will work and other times it won't come on at all. I have noticed that when the car sits in the sun it won't always work. If you leave it in the shade it works. Is there a problem with the sensor on the windshield? We have tried to locate the problem and everything seems to be working properly with amps and readings
