Brakes problem
1997 Chevy Suburban V8 Four Wheel Drive Automatic 200000 miles

I bought this vehicle used but it had a 1 year old crate motor in it. From the beginning I have occasionally had a weird noise and feel to the brake pedal where it was tough to push down and kind of felt like the brakes were intermitten. Now the brake pedal is hard to push down and it is not stopping properly. Obviously I have stopped driving it but wanted to know if anyone can tell me whre to start as far as troublshooting.
