2002 Chevy Corvette V8 Two Wheel Drive Manual 24000 miles

I have had problems in the past with my gas gauge--when I fill it up, the gauge only goes to 3/4 full -- even though the tank is full. Now the gauge has fallen to empty even when full and within a few seconds of starting the engine, the CHECK ENGINE and LOW FUEL light comes on and stays lit constantly. What could be causing this problem and any fix suggestions? Thanks!
