2002 Audi A6 6 cyl All Wheel Drive Automatic 67000 miles
----------------------------------------------------------------
My car is making a humming noise when I turn at low speeds (backing out of driveway, navigating through parking lots, etc.). I took it in twice and the first time they found the front brake rotors were warped so they replaced those and the noise went away for a few weeks but then started coming back again. I took it in a second time and they found corrosion around that area which they said can happen due to weather. So they hit the brakes hard a few times and the corrosion came off and the noise went away. I just got my car back the other day and I can still hear a slight noise again. Is there something else that may have been overlooked? I know that the car shouldn't be making any noises. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Hi there,

The brake pads may be glazed and causing the noise you hear, normally if you work the brake and get then hot, the pads will clear up, Do you hear the noise after heavy breaking? find a quiet spot and give the brakes a bit of a work out and see if the noise goes away.

Thanks for the quick response. I hear the noise when I'm turning at idle speeds. It usually occurs when I'm backing out of my driveway or navigating in my work's parking lot. The noise doesn't occur when I'm pushing on the brake. It occurs when I turn and my feet aren't pushing on the brake or the gas. Any ideas on what that may be?

Hi there,

I would jack up each wheel and spin the tyre by hand, have a close listen, if you can hear the noise, remove the wheel and turn rotor, check for something touching the rotor, something stuck between the rotor and the backing plate, or the backing plate touching the rotor, start to narrow it down that way. see how you get on.

I have an audi a4 and I had that problem as well. When I took it to the shop, they told me it was the power steering pump that was making that noise. It had been leaking or something so thye replaced it. The noise was gone by after about 5-6 months it's back now but only occasionally which is odd.
