Interior problem
2001 Toyota Sienna 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic 70000 miles

The sliding door on the passenger side has malfunctioned several times. We currently cannot open it from the outside or inside. A mechanic friend in PA where we bought it was able to fix it quickly for a very reasonable charge. He said the problem was with a cable connecting the interior push button and the lock mechanism. We are now in CA and hear it can cost hundreds of dollars to fix here. Is there a way I could fix it?

You sure its not the child lock causing the problem.
