2001 Pontiac Grand Prix AC not turning on

Electrical problem
2001 Pontiac Grand Prix 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic 105000 miles

The AC wont turn on. When I turn the nob to on the front headlights turn off. I turn the nob to off and the lights turn back on, but the ac doesnt turn on. Sometime I will turn the nob to on and it works , but it rarely works. I just stop working this week. Please help it is getting hot in texas.
