Computer problem

I'm probally not technically correct with the terms dead mode however the car will not start or turn over. I had two mechanic friends look at my car. Everyone had assumed it was the starter but when it was removed and taken to Autozone the test came back that it was operating fine. I get all power for lights/radio. They disconnected my alarm to see if it was causing the problem - it wasn't the problem. The car had no symptoms prior. Simply my husband used the car to get cigarettes and then it wouldn't start again. My friends suggested that the computer may have locked the car as an anti theft system. I tried resetting the computer by unplugging the terminals to the battery and left unhooked for one hour. Nothing. I was then told I need a pass key and computer system to reset the main computer. Then I was told by my uncle in the repo business that the bipass key no longer is needed. I have no idea what to do and no money to afford a tow for a diagnosis from a mechanic. Any suggestions? Could it be the computer? I have a six month old battery in the car and the starter was tested ok. Any help would be wonderful.
