Electrical problem
2001 Honda Odyssey 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic 100000 miles
Hi
My Honda odyssey van was sitting for about 2-3 weeks without being moved. I thought I would go out and start it because it had been unused for so long.
The remote would not open the door, in fact, the alarm started to go off when I tried the remote. I then opened the door manually but the alarm would still not be silent. I can tell the battery is low because the alarm sound is weak and slows when I open and close the door.
The ignition is dead because the alarm is going. Panel lights come on but are dim, clock still goes but at wrong time.
I cant jump start the battery because the car is immobile because the alarm disarms stuff.
I have Googled and tried advice like turn the key left then all the way right and that should turn the alarm off - doesn't work. I have looked for the small button meant to be at knee level to turn off the alarm - cant find it.
Not sure if it is factory fitted alarm or after factory fitted.
To cut all that story short - how do I disconnect the alarm - thanks so much.
Kim Johnson

When the alarm go off, is the horn honking or aftermarket siren sounds? |

It was more like a chirping sound. I think it is the horn but the battery is low.
Thanks |

Look under the driver's side dashboard near the parking brake and brake pedal area to see if theres any aftermarket components. You could use a battery jumper or jump start the battery and try to disarm the system by pressing unlock on the remote. |

Hi again
I have found out that the alarm is after factory. The remote is not Honda issue. The system closes all windows when the remote is closed.
So the noise is not the horn.
I have looked where you said and can't see anything that would indicate alarm, but I have taken 3 pics of the are and you may be able to spot something.
Thanks

There's a couple of big wires (red) and the black wires is not factory at the right side of the picture. The aftermarket security system could be inside the kick panel just follow the red wires to see where it goes. |

Gee you are good. How you manage to notice that?
The wires go to a box under the driver seat. I didn't even know the box was there.
I have given more pics.
Will I disconnect all wires to this box?
The guy who sold this van said he did several add ons. I don't care if I lose his add ons. I only want the alarm cut, but I don't want to disarm anything that I need to get the car up and running.
If this is the alarm I suppose I will be able to hook up the box and alarm after the van has been jumped and the battery is good again.
Thanks again.

I repair Honda cars for years and know the ins and outs of their automobiles.
The second picture you provided is a power inverter, which could drain your battery because it is hooked up directly from the battery. This device has nothing to do with your no start.
Check the following places to see if you can find any aftermarket device:
The first picture on the left side is the kick panel (gray) - remove it to see if you could find anything there...
What about the two black wires next to the red wires, where do they go?
Check the area above the two red wires... |

Sorry been so long getting back to you. I have been looking at places you mentioned but am still stumped.
I have taken more pics because I still don't know what I am looking for.
The pic with the 3 switches are all switched on. One of the switches looks like it has different wire and electrical tape which could be an add on.
The black wires seem to go in different directions.
If I follow a suspect wire what am I looking for at the end of it?
Sorry for being so stupid and I appreciate all your help. - Thanks again.

The picture A- the two swtiches (black and white wires) on the left side looks like one of those is the switch to turn off the alarm. Try turning the ignition key to on and switch the switch to off and see if the alarm would turn off.
The picture E- The alarm shock sensor is on the left side (black box) if you follow the shock sensor wires you might found the alarm (black box also but bigger). |
