2001 Ford Explorer 6 cyl Four Wheel Drive Automatic 99000 miles

My car won't start. I don't think it is the battery and another friend looked at it and thought the noise I hear when I start it is coming from the transmission, maybe. I had a new transmission rebuilt a year ago though. I don't have a manual and not sure what it could be. It is stuck in my driveway.
