Noises problem

I have been unemployed for the last couple of months so I have neglected in the last week to do anything about the oil light coming on. Tonight while my wife was driving the van started having acceleration problems and make a knocking noise. We immediately pulled over and turned the car off. Is my engine totally gone?

most likely the oil pump is gone.if the engine turns maybe you didnt kill the motor.but dont turn it on or drive it until you replace the oil pump
