Air Conditioning problem

Hello,

I just purchased a used Town and Country. Upon driving it home we are having problems with the air conditioning. I thought it might be low on freon so I bought some and decided to put it in. When I put my gauges on it the Pressure at an idle of about 2000 RPMs was about 100 in the red. 40 to 45 should be normal. I think I here the compressore try to kick on when I hit the button. What's the problem and Why is the pressure so high. Obvioulsy not a low freon issue.
