Engine Performance problem
2001 Chrysler PT Cruiser Automatic

My mom drives this car every day. A few months ago we noticed the engine sputtering. More of a minor annoyance, it only did it when we were completely stopped (red light, stop sign, start-up, etc.). Now though, it does it any time were under about 30 mph. I am certainly no mechanic, but my dad had this problem with his car too (1999 Dodge Neon), so i figured it had something do do with the spark plugs (or at least somewhere in that area). Any help would be well appreciated.
