I want to do a general tune up and have been told to stay with the factory brand spark plugs. Is this correct? Seems like there may be a better plug available.
Nope. Use only the A/C Delco plugs and wires that it came with. The ignition system is designed around those parts to have a specific amount of resistance for the computer controlled dwell and timing, aftermarket parts are cheaper yes, but cheaper is exactly that. I have been doing this a long time and I use only OEM parts for best performance
