2001 Chevy Suburban V8 Two Wheel Drive Automatic 119000 miles

Over the past year and a half the cruise control began to work intermittently. It seemed that if we run on the road it would just quit working. Then if we stopped it would re-engage again. Now it has stopped completely. We have had the entire switch removed and replaced with a new one but that did not solve the problem so the old switch is now re-installed. The mechanics suggested that I take it to our local Chevy dealer. However, after looking at the internet and some troubleshooting suggestions I'm not so sure that its just a simple problem. I do not know if they checked the servo control when they were working on it so that could still be a problem. They did check the brake switch but that was in working order and was not causing the problem.
