Engine Mechanical problem

When my fuel gauge reads @ 1/4 tank and the truck has sat overnight, it will not start. I bought the truck used and it had the problem. I have had the fuel pump assembly replaced and the problem remains. If the truck is started when the fuel is above the 1/4 tank level, it will continue to run until the tank is empty (the gauge shows E). It will start (restart) if the engine is warm and the fuel is below 1/4 tank. When I asked the local dealership about it they said they had never seen the problem before.
