Engine Mechanical problem
2001 4 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic 17000 miles

my battery died and we took it to autozone to have it tested. it held a charge, and we charged it. we put it back and started the car, and then we took the battery cable off, the car died, so we thought the altenator was broke. we bought a new one, and installed it. the car is running, but the battery light is still on. the man at autozone could not test the old or the new altenator because he was missing the adaptor for the machine. and he also said that newer cars will die if the battery is disconnect, and it is not an accurate way to test the altinator. i am also wondering if the battery light has to be reset or if i still have a problem. please help please please.
