2000 Toyota Camry 6 cyl

I was on the highway today and as I attempted to accelerate, the acceleration suddenly became sluggish and the check engine light began to flash. It stopped as suddenly as it began and the acceleration no longer seemed to be a problem. I read somewhere that I can have a person at a auto parts store check the engine codes for me. Can that be done even if the check engine light is not currently on? What problems could I be facing? Should I just wait for the check engine light to come on again before taking it the dealership or the auto parts store?

Hi there,

the fault code will be stored in the memory of the ECU, so go get a scan and report back your code or codes.

The fault code that came up was P0305, Cylinder 5 misfire detected. Currently, the check engine light is off and no further problem has been came up. Actually, occasionally it idles low and cuts off. But after a few minutes, it cuts on with no problem. It seems to do that the most when the weather changes.

Thank you so much

Hi there,

just remember that this fault code will be held in the memory till it is erased so i would do this so you don't go looking for a false code next time. good luck.
