I have a 2001 Saturn SL1. The answer to that question is simple. How old is your battery? The battery has to have enough life or juice to start your car and run the car's computer at the same time. When it is getting weak, on this particular brand of car, it is not able to maintain enough power to fully power the car's computer, so the computer goes crazy sending that security light blinking on your dash to confuse you. And that is exactly why it's doing it, because it is confused itself. So with that said, before it leaves you stranded, like mine did out of town where you know no one, replace your battery or at least have your charging system checked. Here is some good advise!! The battery will probably test GOOD or even NOT BAD, but if you replace it anyway it will save you months worth of headaches. Trust me I have been through it 3 times until I took control of the situation, stopped listening to the auto parts people who were testing it and it said it was checking good, and replaced it any way!
