Engine Cooling problem

my car has begun to overheat after about two weeks of driving around town. this has happened before but was more severe. the car would not take in the water, so we changed the thermostat and it worked. that was about four months ago. now it takes about two or a little more to overheat. do i need to flush the radiator or something. i notice that when i checked the water to fill it up the other day, the water was kind of brown, rusty or something. i dont know if that normal.
