2000 Other Saturn Models 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic 80,000 miles
----------------------------------------------------------------
I bought my 2000 Saturn LS2 from a friend of mine who is a used car dealer back in October. I got it financed and he warned me that the control module was going bad so the inside lights flickered if I pressed a button and such (little things that didn't affect the safety or performance). Then in December I noticed my exhaust sounding like a low growl and by March it sounded like a v8. My friend the dealer looked at it and told me that my flex pipe had been destroyed and no longer existed and there's a hole in the exhaust up a little closer to the engine, so my gas mileage is similar to that of a v8 too. The last week of March, it died on me. I was going in reverse out of a parking spot and had not hit the gas yet, then heard a loud bang like I had hit something but there was nothing. When I put it in drive, it made the same noise again but I was moving so I didn't know what it was. But when I hit the gas to accelerate I had nothing at all, the pedal went straight to the floor, and we were coasting. When I stopped the car I stupidly shut it off to see if it would start again and it wouldn't. Since then, I've had it towed, my friend the dealer and his mechanic got it started once and moved it around the shop but since then it won't start. I replaced the battery (new), the control module (used), and the fuel pump (used) so far. Before I changed the fuel pump, it sounded real bad when it tried to start but since I put the new one in it sounds better but it still won't turn over. The only problem I've seen that's been consistent is that the fuel gauge, regardless of the amount of fuel in the tank, is not reading anything at all. That was the reason I replaced the fuel pump and now it gets fuel to the top of the engine but it still reads empty. Many people have said that it may be something as simple as resetting the computer so it takes itself out of lock mode... but nobody knows how to do so. So that's everything so far and I've been reading my repair manual (from Discount Auto Parts) and still can't find anything. I'm willing to buy the part and do it myself or I'm willing to pay for labor if the part is free or not even required, but I won't pay for both. What I need is someone who knows a Saturn but any help at all is seriously appreciated. Also consider I have no other vehicle but my mother's now which is shared with 3 other people and a 2 year old and I just started a new job and HAVE to have transportation. No sob story but it's a serious one and I need professional advice. Thanks
