Tires and Wheels problem
2000 Other Chevrolet Models 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic 100000 miles
----------------------------------------------------------------
i have a prizm that when i first got it the rear tires were wearing out around 10,000 miles. there was a bent spindle that was fixed...i havent been able to rotate the tires like i should because im suspecting the car may have been hit or damaged from the rear. I've had some mechanics say they can 't balance the rear tires and some that can. The tires are cupping now and im suspecting that the rear tires are not lining up to the center of the car... I dont think the struts need to be replaced but i am willing to do that if the frame is not bent... any suggestions????

You can start off by checking the alignment to see if there is a problem there. IF not then replace the struts and keep up on the rotation. If they are too cupped, then replace the tires.

A wheel alignment should include looking at the rear. The rear gets straighten out first, then the front is adjusted.

What do you mean you had trouble rotating the tires? Couldn't get out the lugwrench or the cash Wink

IF the frame is bent, it has to be straightened out first. You need to truley be able to decide how much you'll spend to get your car back in shape.

Just to throw numbers,
Say it takes $250 to straighten the frame ( I have no Idea what it runs)

Another $600 for struts, another $70 alignment, $200 for tires,

So for a rough idea its $1200...Make that $1220..( can't forget the donation Wink )

Can you buy a car for $1200 to replace what you have in running shape with any other consideration included? My guess is probably not...so it's worth fixing from a financial standpoint IMHO.
