Engine Mechanical problem
2000 Honda Civic 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Auto 90000 miles
----------------------------------------------------------------
Engine started to shake a little a week ago. Check engine light came on this week. If you open the hood and listen to the engine, you can hear a bang/knock/ping type noise. I brought it to a mechanic, and after looking he stated that he thinks I need to get the valves replaced (top half of engine I assume) and will cost $1000-1500.

The car is worth approx 5k if in good condition, any recommendation on getting it fixed or if I could sell it for 3k to 4k would that be okay?

For this type of problem, what will happen if I keep driving and how soon is it likley to happen?

You could ruin the entire engine.Hondas are very durable, i would have it fixed and keep on driving it.If it is making aknocking noise I would take it for a second opinion just to feel better about it, usually it is the bottom end (crank, rods) that knock, valves usually make a loud click
