Engine Performance problem
2000 GMC Sierra V8 Four Wheel Drive Automatic 140000 miles

Just today my truck started acting up.. it felt like a transmission issue, where it would jerk than be ok. I'd drive a little firuther and it would happen again.
I had to stop at a traffic circle and the truck just died.
I started it back up, but it died again as soon as I put it in gear.
I gave ut gas and held the brake to keep it running.
any ideas as to what he cause is?
