Transmission problem
2000 Ford Windstar 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic 92000 miles

The transmission seems to shift hard in and out of first to second, and there's a pretty good thump and/or bang, as well as a fair lurch when accelerating moderately. This usually happens at slow speeds. When creeping along in traffic, the transmission, when shifting out of first into second, seems to make the car lurch forward as if Im hitting the gas pedal a bit. Would it be cheaper to rebuild, or just lift up the engine/transmisison and drive a new or rebuild up underneath it, or could it be something minor?
