I recently had the 60K mile service II inspection done on my 2001 BMW 330i (std transmision/ sport pkg)and they are recommending I replace both ball joints. This seems unusually early. I had it done on my 92 325 between 80K and 90K.

I understand that while there is no exact lifespan that can be put on a sealed ball joint, they can fail as early as 125,000 miles. Signs of a failing ball joint start with a clicking or snapping sound when the wheel is turned and eventually turns into a squeaking sound at the end of a stop, when the gas pedal is used and/or also when hitting bumps.

My car is not exhibiting any of these symptoms. Can I run with it for awhile longer, or should I spend the $ now?

Best thing to do right now is to get a second opinion, if you have any doubts! Or jack it up yourself and put 1 hand at three and the other at 9 and shake, then put hands at 12 and 6 and shake, then place a bar under the tire and check for up and down play, if any movement is detected, replace them! You don't need to wait till the are unsafe to change them!
