i have a 1995 bmw 320i 1800000 miles my car is regestering half a tank of fuel it cut out on me at traffic lights after a 20 minuite jurney with no warrning i think i can hear the fuel pump when you start the key but there is no fuel getting to the engine what could this be and what else could the sound from under the bonnet be it sounds like an electric motor
thanx man that confirmed what i was thinking but giving me the part number is spot on.As didnot where the fuel pump was.but i do now and i really need to know what that soud is as its got somthing to do with the fuel i was working on my car today trying to get the fuel filter off and i had the ignition on as i had just put two gallons of fuel in it just in case i had done the obviouse the ignition was on for agood 20 mins and that little pump was still going for it i could feel vibration in some of the pipes and i traced it back to a silver pump under the air intake for the injectors and is conected to that intake and a black plasic canister about as big as a beer can and the other side of that canister has a blue plastic pipe which i think goes to the fuel tank is that pump supposed to run constantly
