My response to your question is yes, however I am in the US market and BMW does not offer the diesel power plant here yet and I am unsure of how much assistance I can be. I would say the Snap-on scanner would be fine for most applications, but it will only tell you what is being generated from a generic standpoint. If you can get access to the proprietary BMW software (it's called a GT-1) and access the codes, I could be of better aid to your issue.
