I replaced the rear pads, but also wanted to replace the discs. After removing the screw, and some gentle tapping and some not so gentle, the disc refused to come off.
had to leave the old ones in place.
It was the same on both sides.
any tips?

To replace the rear rotors it is often required to use an extreme amount of force, especially if they have been on there for several years. To remove a stubborn rotor, remove the caliper and the screw holding the rotor on, then I usually choose my heaviest hammer (a 3 lb. sledge ought to do, remember force=mass time acceleration) and strike smartly at the edge of the "hat". Please remember to wear safety glasses and to protect yourself at all times. Don't be afraid to hit it, it often takes several blows to get them loose.
