1998 BMW 740 V8 Two Wheel Drive Automatic

lights and other electricals work but it is as if battery is dead. could it be the battery or a fuse ?

It could be the battery, how old is it and has it been tested? Does it crank and not start or no crank no start? When did this begin as a problem?

battery is 4 + years old - it is an 85 month battery - interstate. has not been tested. will not turn over at all. Car started fine yesterday.

I would start with the battery, Interstate is a good battery and bad things can happen to good batteries. Try reading the voltage of the battery and if it is below 12.5 volts, recharge it and try starting the car again. If it does recharge and it "comes back to life" then I would start looking for the root cause for the battery going dead like a "key off draw" of more than 50 milliamps from an aftermarket alarm or sound system or even something in the car could be running the battery dead. Oh BTW, you didn't leave the lights on or something did you?

took battery out and had tested> it was low but after full charge< it tested good. reinstalled and still nothing. could it be the electronic immobling device?

It is possible the EWS will require realignment, yes.

The actual time to perform this realignment is only about 15 minutes but there is also the diagnostic time for the tech to figure this problem out, figure one hour for everything should do it.
