Transmission problem
1991 BMW 525 4 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic 88000 miles
----------------------------------------------------------------
i think I`m low on automatic gearbox oil and wondered if someone could tell me how to check the level and where the fill pipe maybe.
A picture would be invaluable.
In anticipation,

The General Motors built transmission in your BMW has a fill plug on the right side of the main body of the transmission, it is towards the rear and has an 8mm Allen head screw. Check with the engine running and with the fluid temp between 30 and 50 degrees Celsius. Use DEXRON III automatic transmission fluid to bring it back up to normal and find out where it is leaking from and repair it.
Thank you so much allthough I`m not sure if it`s a general motors gearbox.
Its a 1991 model and I think it may be German build.
How do you fill it?
Thanks again,
wineprovider
Fill it through the level plug. It can be pumped in. If it is a 1991 model BMW, then it most likely is a French built General Motors transmission. Please repost with the Vehicle Identification Number.
