Electrical problem
2000 Chevy Malibu Automatic
----------------------------------------------------------------
WE HAVE replaced the fuel filter and the ignition switch. problem before this is -- when you turned key in ignition the electrical components (radio, dash lights...) electrical power to these wouldn't work and engine would not turn over. we have since replaced the fuel filter and the ignition switch - the electrical components work again and the enginewants to turn over but doesnt. we are wondering if the replacement of the fuel flilter needed some sort of reset.... please help!!!

Its the security system and since you have been trying and trying
you need to step away and let it sit with key in the ignition and on leave it for 10 or 15 min
then turn key off and wait 10 sec
then try to start once and if it start you are good if it didnt then you leave key on for another ten to 15 min
then turn it off for ten sec and try to start
you may have to do it three times
and a total of 30 to 40 min

I tried your last suggestion 2 or 3 times and only change was the drain on the battery.
Question regarding specific procedure - When you leave the key ON - I was assuming that you meant ON as in the auxillary position?

I noticed - also - as I was closing up for the nite that (first time ive seen this one) there was a blinking red light in the stereo screen and it blinked "loc".

The "theft" light in the dash isn't on but this now makes me wonder if that is also some type of theft deterrent system.

Again - I can't thank you enough for your help.
