Engine Mechanical problem
2000 Chevy Malibu 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic

This question is for a friend of mine. We've been trying to solve this but it tends to go away then rear it's ugly head from time to time.
At one point the CEL had come on but then disappeared, but the stalls continue. The code for the CEL was in regards to the camshaft pos. sensor, but again, we haven't seen the code again. Could this be related to fuel system, as in pump or filter?
BTW, the engine sometimes just quits or acts like it's been choked off or something. Would the camshaft sensor give these kind of symptoms?
