Air Conditioning problem
2000 Chevy Astro 6 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic 136000 miles
----------------------------------------------------------------
My AC compressor went out last Nov, on a friday afternoon. The GM dealer wanted around $650 to replace compressor. AZone was $239 + core and then it cost me $80 to get put on (less than half of Chevy dealer). He did it Sun Morning as I had important meeting Monday AM. He doesn't do Freon so said to get done later. Compressor never hooked up electrically, was just using pulley/clutch. Called Chevie dealership the other day since it was 99 degrrees outside, he said $59 to charge w Freon so I went in next morning. They had me fill out and sign admitance form. After I signed it, he told me there was a $95.00 diagnosis fee if a problem. I have them the 6" wire to connect electric to AC compressor since that hadn't been run. which they acknowledge on form. He came back over 1 hr later, said I had leaks in AC system, the compressor was noisy and it would hold the 2 lbs Freon they put in, cause of after market parts I had put on and charged me $106 for the diagnosis fee and freon, which I paid, which would be deducted if I now paid $1,295 for GM parts to be installed. (they never did say my after market Compressor was bad, just noisy) I declined, paid, left and filed a complaint with the BBB on them
Not being a mechanic, I never realized that they had left the electrical connestion plugged in. Yesterday, the clutch on the compressor got extremely noisy and I made it home at 20 mph. Compressor is now dead and not covered by 90 waranty by Auto Zone,
and I am on Soc Security, with limited funds, no transportation...............
Any solutions? Is the Chevy dealer liable for leaving compressor electric hooked up or am I just screwed. lol
