Engine Performance problem
2000 BMW 316 Two Wheel Drive Manual
----------------------------------------------------------------
Hi, 3 weeks ago my radiator blew a hose and emptied by the side of the road. since then i have had a mechanic fix the broken hose which in turn blew the radiator so that was fixed at the same time. since then 1st and 2nd gear have been really non responsive when i start from cold causing me to kangaroo up the road when trying to pull off.

My question is...

The hose that comes from the bottom of the radiator and into the engine seems to be leaking water. would this cause the problem that i am having?

The coolant leak may not have anything to do with your power loss and this is an engine variant for which I have little experience as BMW does not use it in the north American market.

I have taken the car to a garage and they seem to think that the cylinder head has beed 'cooked' causing it to release water into the piston giving me the problem in 1st and 2nd oh also my water pump has started leaking too so I would advise ANY bmw owner to get thier cars sorted as soon as they start goin wrong. Sad

One of the issues we have as moderators in this forum is the inability to assess the cars firsthand. We deal with incomplete stories and partial truths as a matter of fact. This is not to blame so please do not reply for that reason, rather I bring this up to stress a point, if given the whole story up front, it is easier to make an informed diagnostic, any car if over heated or one that has cooling system issues will, if abused, have these issues. There is no amount of information given to us here at 2carpros that could be considered too much information. Thank you for reposting your findings Matt, I have transcribed this entire story to our moderators forum for others to comment on. ♥
