Engine Mechanical problem
1999 Toyota Avalon V8 Front Wheel Drive Automatic 216916 miles

I was driving home from work and my engine started to shudder and lurch. not forcefully, but it feels like I'm hitting small pot holes. My check engine light started to flash at me and as soon as I got home I put oil in (it was a little bit low because my engine is a second engine that was rebuilt, but the seals are bad, so it burns oil. So that was my first guess. then I turned the car on and revved it 2 times and then it did the same thing as when I was driving while it was in park in my driveway. I need to replace my brake pads, but that shouldn't have anything to do with the engine, should it? Please help me figure this out!
