Electrical problem
1999 Renault Megane 4 cyl Two Wheel Drive Manual 89000 miles
----------------------------------------------------------------
I have a problem with the unit behind the fuses which controls central locking, drivers door window, wipers, indicators and remote imobilizer.
I need to replace this unit but can I get one second hand or does it (as I have been told) have to be coded to the car/key as it controls the codes for the immobilizer rather than just the remote sensor.
The reason I ask is that Renault have quoted around £600 for unit and fitting which is probably more than the car is worth?
Being in the US, my software doesnt address Renault (sorry) But almost all cars with anti-theft need the keys and remotes progammed. See if they will install a used part and program it for you or see if any local shops have the software to do so, you dont always have to go to the dealer, some independant shops have what is req'd to repair your car, so call around and ask first
