Engine Mechanical problem

My check engine light came on and I took it to the dealer who said the vacuum pump needed to be replaced. Can the pump be reparied or is there some other fix that can be tried before I have to replace it. I have searched for the part so that I could have someone put it on for me to save money, but I can't seem to find it anywhere except the dealer. Will it damage my car to drive it until I can save up $900.00 to get it fixed? Any help or hints would be greatly appreciated.

you mean secondary air injection pump. 900 is a crazy amount of money for that. now that you know the name of the part you whould be able to find one either used etc. for a lot less money and it is not a difficult job to do. you will do absolutely no harm to vehicle driving with a bad air injection pump. you will need to have it fixed before your next emissions test. hope this helps
