Engine Performance problem
1999 Nissan Altima 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic 158000 miles

Hello,
I recently installed a used 2.4L replacement engine in my 99 Altima (old one was toast). I took my time, labled everything and connected everything back up correctly. On initial start-up, the car fired right up and ran fine for about two minutes. The engine then started to miss and I noticed white smoke coming from the catalytic converter area connected to the exhaust manifold, so I shut it down. After the fact, I noticed a dirty black mark on the pavement below the tailpipe. I restarted the car with the same symptoms, so I let it warm up, then ran a vacuum test. The vacuum gauge showed 17Hg with a steady needle. I then ran a compression test with no mre than 5lbs. variance between cylinders. Any ideas as to what the problem may be. Thanks
