Engine Mechanical problem
1999 Jeep Cherokee 6 cyl Four Wheel Drive Automatic 170K miles

1999 Jeep Cherokee Sport 4x4 Milage 170K: When i crank the engine it wants to die immediatly. If i give it gas while starting it the engine with sputter and stall and as soon as i let off the gas it will die again. All my guages are good and i see nothing fucntional wrong when i look at a the engine. Any suggestions?

Most likely its the fuel pump. My '99 was doing just as you describe, changed the fuel pump, and SO FAR it seems ok.
