As per the instruction from Isuzu if you are having problems moving the shift lever from P while hitting the brake with the engine running, then move the key switch to ACC position also move the shift lever from P to N position and start the engine. Why?

Hi Peter,

Did you get that problem fixed? I have a 1998 Rodeo and I am experiencing the same problem at 180000 miles; unable to move shifter out of park with the engine running or powered. I can however turn the vehicle off and put in nuetral to start.

Please post the fix.

Yes the problem is a grounding problem down at the bottom of the console where the shift lever is located. In other words it's about an electronic issue rather then a manual one. There is a part that can be ordered but it takes 2-3 days to get, so rather then wait they grounded the electrical unit to the bottom of the chassi. They have to remove the instrument panel so the job takes a few hours but is cheap and easy to fix by grounding.
