Transmission problem
1999 Ford Ranger 4 cyl Two Wheel Drive Manual 140000 miles
----------------------------------------------------------------
I recently bought this truck used from my company. Previous drivers did not report any issues with clutch. Yesterday, over the course of about an 8 mile return trip, I noticed it was getting harder to get the shifter into each gear. Clutch pedal is firm (no play), but even when fully depressed, it got harder and harder to press the shifter into any gear. Finally, as I approached my home, it seemed to fail completely, the shifter simply would not move into any gear from neutral, even with the clutch engaged fully. Question: when a clutch fails over such a short period of time, does the whole clutch need to be completely replaced, or does this sound more like something such as the cable pulling loose? Any suggestions are welcome (since it won't move under its own power, I'll need to have it towed, then be stuck paying for whatever they tell me needs to be replaced....) Thanks!!
