Engine Mechanical problem
1999 Ford Escort 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic 122000 miles

Marvelous car with no problems until recently. Car was tuned up 2200 miles ago when it tried to stall at medium speed accelarration (also new plugs and wires). It was fine then. Now, over the last 2 weeks it's been developing a rattling noise from the engine. Last night the noise got very bad, and then the engine quit and won't restart. Tried again this morning. It started, began a bad shaking, and quit again, and won't restart. Ideas?

Check fuel pressure and fuel pump
check timing belt and do a compression test
